The most frequently asked questions are about waterproofing.....
* Does my blanket need to be re-waterproofed everytime it is washed?
* How do I know if my blanket is waterproof?
Blankets are all "waterproof" in different ways. Some blankets are made with material that is coated on the underside, thus preventing water from penetrating the outer shell. Other blankets have a plastic type layer in-between the lining and the outer shell, which keeps out the moisture. There are some blankets that are "water-resistant". Those blankets typically have stitching down the topline, or on other areas. The stitched areas are heat sealed with a strip of waterproofing. Anywhere there is stitching, there is the chance for water to seep down through the holes made by the needle, making the blanket "water-resistant" as opposed to "waterproof".
Any waterproof blanket that we wash, will still be waterproof after it is washed. Anotherwards, on an originally waterproof blanket, the waterproofing will not wash out.
At Sky High Ranch we use a Silicone water guard that is sprayed on the blanket. It is used for blankets that leak or stable blankets that may encounter rain. If your blanket is "waterproofed" by us, then washed, it will need to be re-applied. The spray on waterproofing does wash out.
There are a few things that can be done to ensure your blanket stays in top shape. One is to not leave your blanket in the sun when not in use. The sun on the material will break down the "coating" on the under side of your blanket, causing it to crack and peel. Also, if you do wash your blanket at home, do not put it in the dryer. The dryer will shrink up the waterproof barrier, ( if your blanket has one) causing it to break. Always hang dry your blanket.
The best preventative is to check under your blanket frequently when it is raining.
The answer is simple. There is a big difference between a residential washing machine and a industrial one. Our washing machine is boleted down into 10 inches of concrete with six 8 inch bolts. The cycles on our machine are much stronger than that of a residential washer, thus removing more dirt, urine and manure.
No in-home washer can compare to ours. Here are some examples....

Well, if you want your blanket to last as long as possible, bring it to us before it is destroyed. Lets face it, horse blankets are not cheap. Spending the $12 or $15 every couple months, will keep your blanket new for years to come. The key is the urine removal. Urine breaks down the fibers in your blankets material. The longer the urine sits, the quicker your blanket deteriorates, thus making it easier to tear. Plus stains set in, and once they are set, they most likely won't come out. Also, fixing a small tear for $5, is much cheaper in the long run, than avoiding to bring it in, until its all torn up, costing you much more.
